Before the First Class - Three Images

Before the First Class - Three Images

1) My Best Piece of  Creative Work Before Coming to This Course

A Convex Mirror Castle on the Scroll
I created this art work when I was in high school, and I put it in my portfolio package when I applied for UNSW. My parents and I like it very much, as it includes a lot of my own ideas. Once in the parking place, I discovered a convex mirror in the corner through a ninety degree turn. That is a wide angle convex mirror through which the driver can observe the traffic of the turn with the wide angle. It happened that I saw the change of the wall surface and discovered a novel feeling, and then, decided to show it on the paper. I bought the silver ball ornaments in the supermarket and found it has similar characters of convex mirror imaging. So I painted the original image of the castles on the sketch book, then through silver ball ornaments observed it and painted it. It became more and more interesting and I felt happy, regarding it as an exciting experience. The style of the castle is ordinary, and it is the yellow castle style painted by me. While through convex mirror imaging it turned out to be a very interesting style. So I painted it as a convex mirror castle on the scroll with color pencil.

2) An Image of a Great Piece of Architecture

Pangu Plaza
This is Pangu Plaza, which was designed by a world-famous architect named Li Zuyuan. This dragon-typed building is just located on the opposite side of the Water Cube (The National Aquatics Center) in Beijing. This masterpiece is composed of five parts: one office building, three residents/apartments and a 7-star hotel. A long corridor called “the Dragon Corridor”, which was using the concept of the Forbidden City’s “Thousand-Step Gallery”, connecting the five parts together. Pangu Plaza is combined with traditional Chinese culture and the advanced western architectural technology. I think the most amazing part is the top of the office building, “the Dragon Head”. It makes a major breakthrough in the physical aspect of the architecture: there is a huge horizontal extension at the top of the office building. Another interesting concept called “A Minor City in a Major City” is embodied in the building. The “Courtyard-Air” is using this concept. The "Courtyard-Air" was built on top of each resident tower at the height of 85 meters. This is a unique place to get a wonderful scene of the Olympic Park.

3) An Original Photograph of Something Beautiful

The Niagara Falls
I took this photograph when I was studying in high school in Canada. That was the first time for me to see the magnificent scene of Niagara Falls in person, and that incredible sight was really surprised me. When I walked along the cliff edge, I could feel the spray of the waterfalls. There are two huge waterfalls in that area, and the waterfall in this photo was one of them, which just next to Canada. I took this photo just behind the fence, and it was very exciting to stand at that place. I could see the water just falling down and making giant water spray in the air. Listening to the sound of waterfalls is an unbelievable and unforgettable experience that I ever have.
